Worming Programs based on Fecal Egg Counts

If you already know your horse's natural immunity to worms - ie Fecal Egg Counts done at least 3 times over a 12 month period, plus your horse is:

  • In good health
  • Your pasture management practices are sound
  • Your horse has not recently moved from one property to another
  • Any new horses to your property have been wormed on arrival.
For example, a horse that sheds less than 200 egg per gram on an ongoing basis would be suited to a Low FEC Worming Program.  A horse show sheds 200-500 eggs per gram a Moderate FEC Worming Program, and a horse that consistently sheds 500+ eggs per gram a High FEC Worming Program.
